Lebanon, NH – Wellan Medical announced that it has entered the European market with its ultraStand probe positioner. The ultraStand is an innovative system designed to securely position an ultrasound probe during image-guided interventional medical procedures, such as regional anesthesia or central line placement. The WELLAN ultraStand frees up clinicians for more essential work, enabling ultrasound guidance that is truly hands-free.
“Customer demand in Europe has been strong,” said Aaron Gjerde, General Manager of Wellan Medical. “We had planned to enter additional markets in 2008 and decided to push this up in response to inquiries especially in France, Belgium, the UK and Scandinavia. Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have also expressed interest.”
The company plans to pursue regulatory approval in other countries as demand is demonstrated, typically when physicians call to place orders. Discussions are underway to expand the distribution network for the ultraStand. “Partners are key to the culture we’re creating at Wellan Medical,” said Kathy Hickey, responsible for product development and clinical evaluation. “We focus on interactions that can be of mutual benefit.”
