Case Presentation

ASA2 56yo male patient scheduled for external uni-compartment knee arthroplasy (right lower limb).

This sort of arthroplastic surgery can be performed under regional nerve blocks anesthesia to provide a deep anesthetic block of the lower limb. For that, the blockade of the three main nerves stemmed from the lumbar plexus to the thigh, the knee and the proximal leg have to be blocked. This is possible, and even easy, under ultrasound guidance, blocking the femoral nerve, the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh and the anterior brach of the obturator nerve, following the inguinal ligament from its external to its internal end, simply moving the transducer held by the ultraStand.
